City of Edmond Brings Holiday Cheer

Edmond Electric’s Luminance kickoff and the annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting are set for Saturday, December 2 at Mitch Park. Residents and visitors can join together at the Mitch Park baseball fields for the festivities that begin at 6:00 p.m.

Luminance is the new walk-thru holiday light display that will be open to the public at the park during the month of December. The 2017 year is a limited preview year with the full roll-out planned for 2018. The display replaces the annual Parade of Lights that has been canceled twice in recent years due to inclement weather.

To kickoff Luminance, the annual Mayor’s Essay Contest winners will be announced in a festive setting. Included will be choir performances, the Mayor’s Tree Lighting, and some very special guests that children won’t want to miss.

“We encourage all Edmond residents to join us for this wonderful holiday tradition. The announcement of the contest winner in the lighted park setting is a great kickoff to the holiday season,” said Casey Moore, Edmond’s Public Information Officer. “Additionally, we are excited to preview Luminance to our residents and look forward to it becoming a premier holiday light exhibit in future years.”

After the event, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to head across the parking lot to the annual Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink presented by Edmond Electric. The rink will stay open until 10:00 p.m. that evening. For more information about the rink, visit edmondoutdooricerink.com

It all begins Saturday, December 2 at 6 p.m. and we hope all of you will join us for these holiday traditions in Edmond that helps make our community a great place to grow!
