Traffic Counts
Traffic volume counts are collected each year at various locations throughout the City. These counts are used for identifying growth patterns and are the basis for any traffic study that is conducted. Counts are also used to determine signal timings along arterial corridors or at isolated intersections.
Volumes are collected by programming a counting device that is placed the middle of the respective lane of traffic. The device collects the volume of vehicles, the speed of vehicles, and the type of vehicle. This data is typically collected every 15 minutes for a 24 hour period or as long as required.
Traffic volume counts are used by the City staff, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Organization, investors, brokers, developers, realtors, and interested citizens.
