Why Public Power?
Public Power has more than 130 years of successful operations and leads change in ways to reflect the underlying strength of its core values: community service, customer orientation and local control.

Generated revenues are reinvested back into community programs and other local projects. Public power energizes local economies by providing jobs, lowering the tax burden and supporting policies that safeguard the environment.

Public Power utilities are operated by local government to provide communities with reliable, responsive, not-for-profit electric service. Public Power utilities are directly accountable to the people they serve through local elected or appointed officials.

Oklahoma has 64 different community-owned utilities. Across the U.S., more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities serve more than 47 million people or about 14% of the nation's electricity consumers.

Today, public power is leading change in the electric utility by increasing the use of renewable energy resources and using innovative approaches to energy-conservation and load-management.
