Edmond Fire Department Overview for 2013

The Edmond Fire Department operated a twenty-four hour, seven day per week service with a 2013 budget of $19,268,735 for operating and capital expenses.

Emergency Operations

  • The Emergency Operations Division responded to 6,810 calls for service. These included structure fires, grass fires, medical aid, hazardous materials threats, and sixty-one Mutual Aid calls.   
  • The average response time for emergency alarms was 5 minutes and 13 seconds.


Fire Prevention

  • The Fire Prevention Office worked diligently to meet the needs of our citizens through programs and services. The Citizen’s Fire Academy and Children’s Safety Challenge programs have continued with great success. Also, the free smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector programs continued to be very successful during 2013.
  • 41 detailed fire scene investigations were conducted. Other activities included building and plat reviews, fire safety inspections, and correction of fire code violations. There were five civilian fire injuries by fire during 2013.
  • In 2013, a total of 1062 existing building inspections were conducted which is an increase of nearly 1000 inspections in 2012.


Training

  • The Department conducted approximately 23,849 hours of training during 2013. We have included in our training on-going programs, i.e., fire suppression training, CPR re-certifications, emergency medical care, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus re-certifications, Hazardous Materials Technician re-certifications, Technical Rescue, physical fitness training, construction updates and pre-fire plans.
  • Fire Department personnel conducted fire pre-plans, fire station tours, safety presentations, apparatus demonstrations, fire drills, children's safety village, car seat inspections, and installations, and other educational programs for a total of 19,486 citizen contacts.
