Edmond Assisting Residents Affected by Storm

City to Provide Curbside Collection of Tree Debris

The City of Edmond will assist residents with the aftereffects of the recent ice storm by providing free curbside collection of storm-related tree limbs and tree debris. Collection may begin as early as next week, depending on weather conditions. In the event of severe weather this weekend, crews may be needed to clear city streets and the tree limb collection won’t begin until the streets have been cleared.

To schedule collection of tree limbs, residents can call the city’s Tree Limb Collection hotline at 359-4784 or complete a form on the city’s Web site at edmondok.com. Residents with questions or concerns can also call the Public Works department at 216-7770.

Residents are asked to begin placing their storm-damaged trees and broken limbs at the curb and are reminded to place them a safe distance from mail boxes, gas and water meters and other equipment near the street. Tree limbs should be placed at the curb in the resident’s yard and should not be placed on the street or block the street in any way.

The tree limbs do not need to be cut into any specific length. If the resident is able to get the limb to his or her curb, the crews will be able to collect it.

If tree limbs were cut down by Edmond Electric crews, the tree limbs will not need to be moved to the curb. Authorized personnel will begin to collect limbs within the next two to three weeks. Residents do not need to call to report limbs cut by the electric utility crews.

Because of the significant tree damage and the amount of tree limb debris across the city, residents are advised that the curbside collection of tree limbs could take several weeks.

Some residents would like to dispose of the tree limbs themselves and have asked about options for disposal.

Tree limbs can be taken to the Edmond Transfer Station, east of I-35 on Covell. To receive the discount available to Edmond residents, those taking limbs to the transfer center will need to show their driver’s license and City of Edmond utility bill.

The cost for disposal of tree limbs is $15 for a pick up level bed full of tree debris. For more information, contact the Edmond Transfer Station, which is privately owned and operated, by calling 216-9401.

Another fee-based option for residents who don’t have access to a pick up truck, is the bulk collection provided by the City of Edmond’s Solid Waste Services. The bulk collection is provided once a month in four quadrants of the city. The quadrant map showing which week of the month collections are made in each area of the city is available on the city’s website at edmondok.com.

The fee for collecting and disposing of tree limbs is $60 per hour, with a minimum charge of $30. The fee is added to the resident’s monthly utility bill. To schedule a bulk collection, contact Utility Customer Service by calling 359-4541. A form is also available on the city’s website for those who want to schedule a bulk collection of tree limbs.

For the bulk collection, tree limbs need to be placed at the curb and should not block the street. They need to be placed a safe distance from mail boxes, gas or water meters or other equipment near to the street.

Additional information regarding the specific dates for the free collection to begin and end will be provided through the local media, the city’s website at edmondok.com and Edmond Life TV, Cox Cable Channel 20.
