Fire Department to Host Children's Safety Challenge
Safety Program Designed for Children Ages 4 to 10
The Edmond Fire Department will host a three day Spring Break Children's Safety Challenge March 18 -21, with a special event for all participants on March 22. The program is designed for children between the ages of four and 10 years and will provide safety education that could save a child's life.
Many children aspire to be a firefighter - a hero saving lives, racing down the street with lights and sirens. At the Children's Safety Challenge, a child can experience that dream.
There are two sessions, one for children ages four through seven and another for children ages eight through 10. The first two days consist of eight 30 minute blocks of time, each focused on a specific safety topic. Each topic includes classroom discussion and hands-on experience.
On the third day of the program, the children participate in a safety course challenge. Child-sized firefighter suits are provided for participants to wear while going through the various activities. Participants maneuver through an obstacle course, answering safety questions at each station. Parents are invited to observe their children go through the course.
For children ages four through seven, the dates are March 18-19. Children ages eight through 10 are invited to attend on March 20-21. Morning and afternoon classes are offered for both age groups.
The enrollment fee of $15 includes a t-shirt and snacks. Enrollment is limited to 100 participants. Parents should note this is safety education training and not a licensed daycare facility.
