Fostering Program
The Edmond Animal Welfare Shelter has an animal fostering program for adoptable shelter animals who need homes but have not yet found the right family. In an effort to find ALL adoptable animals a new home, we are looking for big-hearted friends of animals who share in our vision to provide a temporary home for dogs or cats and perhaps even help rehabilitate certain animals to get them ready for that special permanent family.
Fosterers are a very integral part of our efforts and help us make life-long partnerships with the animals and their new families.
Requirements for Fostering
To be eligible, fosterers must meet and agree to a number of requirements, including, but not limited to, a home approval check and a background investigation. All animals that will be sent to foster homes will first have been vet checked and spayed or neutered. Foster families must agree to bring the animal to adoption events or to the shelter if requested. No one in the fosterer's household must have ever been arrested on any kind of crime against, or involving, animals.
There are quite a few requirements that need to be met in order to be approved as a foster family - but they are not intended to discourage interested people. They are simply to help ensure that these animals will be afforded only the very best quality care and environment.
