Edmond Fire Department Overview for 2007

The Edmond Fire Department operated a twenty-four hour, seven day per week service with a 2007 budget of $17,344,529 for operating and capital expenses.

EMERGENCY OPERATIONS

The Emergency Operations Division responded to 5,020 calls for service. These included structure fires, grass fires, medical aid, hazardous materials threats, and forty-six Mutual Aid calls. The dollar value of the total fire loss for the year was $2,476,834, a decrease of $725,045 from the previous year.

The average response time for emergency alarms was 4 minutes and 55 seconds.

FIRE PREVENTION

The Fire Prevention Office continues to develop programs and services to meet the needs of the community, such as the new Children's Safety Village, Citizen's Fire Academy, and Children's Safety Challenge. The free smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector programs continued to be successful.

Fire Prevention personnel conducted 71 detailed fire scene investigations. Other activities included building/plat reviews, fire safety inspections, and correction of fire code violations. 

There were no civilian fire fatalities during 2007.

TRAINING

The Training Division responded to more than 5,000 incidents. Personnel conducted approximately 38,900 hours of training during 2007, as well as conducting inspections and fire pre-plans, apparatus demonstrations, fire station tours, fire drills, and safety fairs.

The Training Division participated in fire prevention month activities and other educational programs that touched a total of 40,116 citizens in Edmond.
