Fire Suppression (Operations)
The largest division within the
Edmond Fire Department is the Operations Division. This division is made up of
105 personnel who are responsible for, fire suppression, emergency medical
first response, rescue activities, and mitigation of disasters. Specialized units within the
Operations Division include;
Hazardous Materials Response
Team
The Hazardous Material Response Team is a leader in providing critical emergency response to hazardous material incidents in Edmond and across central Oklahoma. The team consists of 22 highly skilled Hazardous Material Technicians. These firefighters have been trained in the following areas:
- Hazardous Materials incidents involving highway transportation
- Hazardous Materials incidents involving rail transportation
- Industrial Accidents involving Hazardous Materials
- Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive incidents

Methamphetamine lab response
- The primary is the Oklahoma Department of Homeland Security Region 8 CBRNE Regional response unit

The second is the Mass Decon/Mass Casualty unit
which is utilized for incidents that require mass decontamination of large
numbers of persons or in the event of a mass casualty incident for mass triage
and treatment of large numbers of persons.
Technical Rescue Team
The Technical Rescue Team for the Edmond Fire Department consists of 25 highly skilled Rescue Technicians. These firefighters have been trained to respond to a variety of special rescue situations. Examples of Technical Rescue situations are:
- Collapsed buildings
- Trench cave-ins
- High angle rope rescues
- Swift water rescue
- Confined space emergencies
- Heavy machinery & transportation incidents
- Vehicle Extrication
- Flood
rescue
The Technical Rescue Team utilizes a special technical rescue response trailer that includes many specialized tools for most situations that may be encountered. Members of the Edmond Fire Department Technical Rescue and Hazardous Materials teams are also members of OK-TF1, Urban Search and Rescue Task Force for the State of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma Department of Homeland Security.
