Operation Clean Streets
Edmond’s annual Operation Clean Streets event, sponsored by Keep Edmond Beautiful and the City of Edmond, is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. The clean up effort is in conjunction with the statewide Trash-Off Day, which is sponsored by the Beautification Office of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
This spring clean up event is an excellent opportunity for families, church groups, civic clubs and organizations to make a positive difference in the appearance of our city. Keep Edmond Beautiful and event sponsors provide coffee and donuts for volunteers as well as prizes for the most unusual trash picked up during the event.
During last year’s Operation Clean Streets event, approximately 360 volunteers collected 700 bags of roadside debris. The same day 340 gallons of oil and antifreeze were dropped off during the spring hazardous household waste collection. Residents also disposed of 65 car batteries and 142 tires.
Volunteers meet at 8 a.m. in the west end of the parking lot of the city’s Administration Building located at 100 E. First.
To volunteer or for more information, call the City of Edmond Public Works office at (405) 216-7770.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
A hazardous household waste collection will take place during the spring clean up event. The drop-off site is the parking lot just east of the Liberal Arts Building on the University of Central Oklahoma campus. You can dispose of cleaning supplies and other household chemicals, automotive fluids, and home and car batteries. You can also dispose of e-waste items such as TVs, computers, VCRs, DVD players, microwaves, camcorders and cameras.
