Recycling Collection

When you recycle through our curbside recycling program, one hundred percent of the recycled materials are taken to the Recycle America Recycling Center in west Oklahoma City where they are processed and shipped to recycling markets. When you recycle, you help save valuable and dwindling landfill space.

We provide curbside recycling for all residential customers with weekly trash cart services. As part of this service, we provide an 18-gallon recycling bin. The bins are permanently assigned to each residential address and belong to the City.

For your convenience, recycling collection is scheduled for the same day as your weekly trash cart collection. However, the recycling and trash are collected by different trucks and at different times of the same day.

Here’s How The Recycling Service Works

You Can Recycle

These Cannot Be Recycled through the Curbside Program

Recycle Used Motor Oil and Wet Cell Batteries

We do not have a program for recycling used motor oil or wet cell batteries except for twice per year events, usually in the Spring (April) and Fall (October). Contact Solid Waste Services or Keep Edmond Beautiful for the exact dates for these events.

Most of Edmond’s Quick Change Oil establishments will allow you to drop off your used motor in their tanks for a nominal charge.

    Tires

We don't have a program for disposing of used automobile or truck tires. The landfills discourage tires because they do not stay buried and continuously work themselves to the surface.

Edmond Firestone Stores do accept tires for citizen drop off for a nominal fee.

The State of Oklahoma passed a law several years ago to add a fee when you purchase a tire for the disposal of your tire when it becomes worn out. Technically, you should be able to return your tire to the place where you purchased it because you have already paid for the disposal of the tire.

    Buy Recycled!

Recycling is a three step process. To succeed, we must include all three segments.

    1. Consumers recycle products. Processors clean and prepare the recycled material for use by manufacturers.
    2. Manufacturers make new products from the collected materials.
    3. Consumers buy recycled content products and, if suitable, put them back into recycling collection programs.

You can make a difference by keeping the process moving and closing the recycling loop!
