Residential Pickup
Your Residential Refuse (Waste and Trash) Collection
Solid Waste Services provides refuse collection service for all Edmond residences. Your collector is responsible for about 700 homes and 950 carts each day!
Automated refuse trucks increase productivity and decrease chances for injury to our employees.
Using hydraulic controls, the driver guides a robotic "arm" out to grasp, lift and dump contents into the hopper on top of the truck.
The automated collection system requires adequate room for the robotic arm to grasp the cart. Cart(s) must be placed at (4) feet from obstructions, such as mailbox, recycling bin, other carts, city coded bags, fences, meters, poles, and landscape materials. Any trash that won't fit into your cart can be placed in the prepaid City Coded Bags . The driver will notify the Solid Waste Services office to pick up your City-Coded Bags. If you find yourself using the City-Coded bags frequently, it may be less expensive for you to request an additional cart(s) for only $3.30 per month.

As part of your weekly service, you are issued one 105-gallon wheeled refuse cart with a lid. The carts are the property of the City of Edmond.
- The cart is permanently assigned to the residence address
- The cart is designed to hold up to 200 pounds
- To prevent tripping, never push the cart unless the lid is closed
- Cart(s) are collected once per week on the same day as the curbside recycling collection.
Here’s How It’s Done!
- Place cart(s) at the curb/roadway before 7 a.m. on your designated collection day to ensure service.
- Curbside recycling and trash collections are on the same day but at different times with different collection vehicles.
- Crews may work until dark if it necessary to complete routes.
- Place cart(s) so the handles are toward the house and the lid opens toward the street
- Keep at least four (4) foot clear around cart to allow the "robotic" arm to grasp it.
- Trash should be bagged before you place it in your cart . This helps tremendously to prevent litter from blowing on windy days.
- Remove cart(s) from the curb/roadside after collection to prevent vandalism or theft. Follow this link for more information about Damaged or Missing Carts and Bins.
Even though your cart is sturdy, it can melt so never place hot ashes in it. Don't put hazardous liquids or chemicals such as paints, oil, corrosive solvents, pool chemicals or pesticides in the cart. Many liquids or chemicals may become dangerous and hazardous when mixed in the cart or in the collection vehicle.
Are You a Two-Cart Family?
You may need to use two (2) carts if your cart is overflowing every week. The cost of additional carts is $3.30 per month which is added to your utility bill. This is about 70 cents per week -- much less than purchasing City-Coded Bags each week.
Are You an Small Household Or An Avid Recycler?
Perhaps you can use a smaller 64-gallon cart for a lesser monthly charge. You can request the smaller cart for a reduced monthly fee to $9.25, or $1 off the base service rate of $10.25.
TAG! You're It!
Please read the Customer Notification Tags the collector leaves on your cart. It is the only way the collector has to communicate if there is a problem with the collection service. Tags let you know what the problem is and how to correct it. If you have questions, call us at (405) 359-4541.
