Water Conservation Plan
Did you know that Edmond's water usage more than doubles during the hot summer months? Our daily water use is typically 10 to 11 million gallons per day. As the temperature climbs, so does our water use. During the hottest, driest part of the summer our water usage can climb to more than 25 million gallons per day!
Edmond's Water Conservation Plan is aimed at conserving and controlling summer water-use. The plan, which is in effect from June 1 to October 1, has four levels. The plan is designed to keep you aware of the level of conservation we need in order to have adequate water supplies for safety and public health.
Level One
This level automatically goes into effect every year on June first. You are asked to voluntarily use the outdoor watering schedule listed below for lawn watering. (You can water trees and shrubs with a handheld hose at any time, on any day).
Street addresses that end with the following number have the following days designed for outdoor lawn watering. In addition, from 7 p.m. to midnight, outdoor watering is restricted. (This break in watering will allow us to rebuild our water reserves.)

Level Two
When water demand is high, the outdoor watering
schedule shown above becomes mandatory. Charity car washes shall be
prohibited. The flushing of fire hydrants shall be prohibited. This
mandate shall not apply to nurseries or commercial car washes.
Level Three
When we have a severe water shortage, all
weekend watering of lawns and washing vehicles will be eliminated in
level three of the conservation plan.
Level Four
Should we ever experience a water supply emergency, all outdoor water use will be prohibited, except for that which is necessary for immediate health and safety reasons.
Based on the demand on our water system, our City Manager will determine when a change in the level of the conservation plan is necessary.
In addition to our website, the local media and our Edmond Life Cable Channel 20 will also provide information about the current conservation level.
You can help us conserve water and reduce your water costs through sound lawn care practices For example, override your automatic sprinkler system if we've just received rain. Too much water will cause your grass to have shallow roots. You can purchase a device to add to your sprinkler system that measures the amount of water on the lawn and keeps your automatic system from coming on after, or in the midst, of rain.
Make sure you aren't wasting this vital natural resource by watering the sidewalk, street or your driveway with your water sprinklers.
With your cooperation, we CAN slow the flow of water this summer!
